Apples are a great way to introduce your baby to fruits and solid food in general. You can feed your baby apples as soon as 6 months old. Remember to start with small doses. You can increase them as your baby starts to get used to the taste and texture.

 

Be creative, mix your apples with some:

  • Oatmeal
  • Banana
  • Avocado
  • Sweet Potato
  • Carrots
  • Mango
  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Pumpkin
  • Squash
  • Pear
  • Blueberries
  • Yogurt

How to cook apples for baby food:

  1. peel and dice your apples
  2. put them in a pan and cover in water
  3. cook over medium heat
  4. cook on simmer until tender (for about 15 minutes)
  5. let cool, take the apples out and put them into a blender
  6. use the cooking water to adjust the consistency

How to steam apples for baby food:

  1. peel and dice your apples
  2. in a saucepan bring 2 inches of water to boil
  3. put apples in a steamer basket
  4. cover and steam until tender (10 minutes)
  5. let cool, take the apples out and put them into a blender
  6. use the steamer water to adjust the consistency

Basic Apple Puree Recipe

  1. take and wash 3 apples
  2. peel them
  3. cut them in small cubes
  4. put them in a pan and cover in water
  5. cook the apples on medium heat until tender (15 minutes)
  6. mash the apples with a spoon or use a blender

 

Michele likes to combine her apples with some healthy greens. Her 1st recipe is a puree of apples mixed with spinach. Spinach is rich in iron, fiber, manganese, folate, magnesium, copper, calcium, antioxidants and vitamins K, A, B2, B6, E and C!

Spinach+Apple Baby Food Puree

  1. wash, peel and dice 6 apples
  2. put them in a pan and cover in water
  3. add cinnamon, ginger, and cloves
  4. cook the apples on medium heat until tender (15 minutes)
  5. add 2 cups of fresh spinach
  6. cook for 2 more minutes
  7. blend it all together, add cooking water if needed

 

Another green apple puree from Michele.  This time she uses the famous kale to make sure her babies get all the vitamins they need, such as vitamins K, A, C and B6, manganese, copper, calcium, iron, and folate

Apple+Kale Baby Food Puree

  1. wash, peel and dice 4 apples
  2. put apples into a steamer basket
  3. steam over boiling water until tender (9 minutes)
  4. add 1/2 cup of kale into the steamer basket
  5. steam for 1 more minute
  6. blend it all together, add steamer water if needed

 

This recipe from Sage Spoonfuls combines apples and carrots. Adding a bit of cinnamon gives this mixture that extra zest.

Carrot, Apple & Cinnamon Puree

  1. wash, peel and dice 2 apples
  2. wash, peel and chop 5 carrots
  3. put into a steamer basket
  4. steam over boiling water until tender (10 minutes)
  5. blend it all together, add steamer water if needed
  6. add a bit of cinnamon and stir

 

This all-fruit baby puree from Little Mashies is great is you want to give your baby something sweet.

Apple, Apricot & Banana Baby Puree

    1. wash, peel and dice 1 apple
    2. wash and dice 1 cup of apricots
    3. put into a steamer basket
    4. steam over boiling water until tender (10 minutes)
    5. transfer into a blender
    6. add 1 banana
  1. blend it all together, add steamer water if needed

 

And still, from Little Mashies, this recipe combines apples, zucchini, and blueberries. A complete vitamin bomb!

Zucchini, Apple & Blueberry Baby Puree

  1. wash, peel and dice 1 apple
  2. wash, peel and chop 1 zucchini
  3. put into a steamer basket
  4. add 1/2 cup of blueberries
  5. steam over boiling water until tender (10 minutes)
  6. blend it all together, add steamer water if needed
  7. add a bit of cinnamon and stir

 

Natalie knows avocados are super healthy. They contain folate, fiber, potassium, vitamin E and iron. And mixing them with a sweet apple puree gives you the perfect combination.

Apple+Avocado Baby Food Recipe

  1. take 1 ripe avocado
  2. put it in a blender
  3. add 3 tablespoons of applesauce/apple puree
  4. blend it all together, add water if needed
