Traveling with a baby might sound like a nightmare. However, it is not as impossible as it may seem.
There are many young moms who decided they are brave enough to do it and are flying around the world with their little ones. Take Amber, for example. She and many others would fly with their babies before they were even 1 year old.
The truth is you just need to be smart and pack light. Bring only the essentials so you won’t feel like Santa Claus while boarding the plane, car or train.
In this article, we are listing 9 tips to help you decide what to pack and what to leave at home while traveling with a baby.
1. Few days worth of diapers
You do not need to bring from home what you can buy at your destination. One of these essentials would be diapers. Just bring 2-3 days worth of diapers and you will be fine. This will give you enough time to look around for shops or order them online.
2. Anything can be a toy
Of course, you need to entertain your baby but you don’t need to bring a whole toy-shop in your suitcase. Save some valuable space as you get creative and transform any object around you even trash into a toy.
For example, Beth from Local Milk claims her little girl preferred an empty water bottle to actual toys anyway.
3. Wipes are your new best friend
Both wipes and disinfecting gel (or wipes) are a real lifesaver not only when traveling with a baby. You can use them to “wash” hands before eating or disinfecting anything your baby might be touching or putting into its mouth.
And they irreplaceable while changing diapers on the go for both your baby’s bottom and your hands.
4. No need for a stroller
This one is to consider but if you don’t plan to go on ultra long walks you can leave your stroller at home. Save space and money for transportation and take a baby carrier instead. It is easier to move around with and your baby will be happier as it has more direct contact with you.
Especially if you plan on going to places like the beach or the mountains – a stroller would be impractical anyway.
5. A multifunctional blanket
Make sure to pack your swaddle blanket. It is compact, light and can be used in numerous ways. It will especially come in handy when changing diapers anywhere you happen to be (like a museum or a cafe bathroom) or giving your baby some time to roll and toddle around.
6. Big plastic bags
If you need to change diapers on the go a big plastic bag for trash is the perfect place where to throw them until you come across a trash bin. Just make sure you close it properly afterward.
7. Do your own laundry
Are you going for more than a week? Chances are you are probably packing way too many clothes than you actually need to. The trick is to do your own laundry while on your travels. Your hotel or Airbnb may have a laundry machine but even if they don’t, you can simply use the wash-basin and a soap.
8. Borrow a car seat
Are you borrowing a car in your destinations? Ask in advance if they have some baby car seats to rent also. If they do, bingo! It will save you all the trouble of taking one from home.
9. All-in-one app
One of the main advantages of a baby monitor app is that it saves space in your luggage as you don’t need to bring an extra baby monitor camera or a white noise machine. It is all on your phone which you are bringing anyway.
